Day 28 Post Op: What the Day Looks Like
This week was harder than I expected. The nerve block has not fully worn off, my shin sensation only recovered about fifty percent, and the burning “sunburn sensation” on my left shin became one of the most uncomfortable parts of my days. My foot has been itchy, the pain comes and goes, and sleep has been rough. I keep waking up around 3 or 4 AM.
Mobility has been a mix of the knee scooter, walker, and CAM boot. I stopped using crutches because I kept losing my balance.
Yesterday: My Doctor Visit
I went in expecting x‑rays, but my doctor told me I didn’t need them since I don’t have any metal hardware. Instead, we focused on my symptoms.
I told him about the burning sensation on my shin, and he prescribed Lyrica to help with the nerve pain. He also recommended that I see a neurologist to evaluate the numbness on my shin.
The best part of the appointment: He cleared me to start physical therapy today.
Today: My First PT Session
This morning I had my first PT evaluation. They checked my ankle’s range of motion, strength, swelling, and sensation. It was a lot of gentle testing, but it felt good to finally start this phase.
After the evaluation, they treated my ankle with ice and a compression machine, which felt amazing after a week of discomfort.
Cold and Compression Therapy Device
My PT schedule is set:
One session next week
Then twice a week after that
It feels like the real work is beginning now.
Where I’m At Now
I’m still dealing with nerve pain, interrupted sleep, and low energy, but starting PT gave me a sense of direction. I’m finishing my aspirin soon, and I’m hoping the Lyrica helps calm the burning sensation.
